Itinerary Intro

Yangmingshan Private Charter Day Tour|Seasonal Flower Viewing + Beitou Itinerary|GleefulTour

Yangmingshan Park:
Yangmingshan National Park is the closest national park to a metropolitan area in Taiwan. With its diverse landforms and rich ecosystems, the park is home to many protected species. If you're lucky, you may spot the Taiwan Blue Magpie—an endemic bird species of the island.

The park is filled with seasonal blooms including plum blossoms, cherry blossoms, peach, plum, azalea, and camellia. Every spring, the cherry blossoms draw large crowds to the mountain. After cherry season, around mid-March, the calla lilies of Zhuzihu burst into bloom. Visitors can walk through the fields and pick their own flowers—taking home a bundle of calla lilies has become a signature experience here.

One of the park's most iconic features is the floral clock made of colorful seasonal flowers—a must-visit photo spot. Beyond the clock, Yangmingshan also features popular attractions such as Xiaoyoukeng, Yangming Shuwu, Lengshuikeng, and Qingtiangang. If you enjoy hiking and nature, these stops are not to be missed.

The area is also known for its geothermal resources, with various hot springs featuring different mineral compositions. The Xingyi Road area in Beitou is lined with hot spring restaurants—don’t miss out on enjoying a sulfur spring soak when passing through.

Whether it’s cherry blossoms in spring, cool mountain air in summer, silver grass and maple leaves in autumn, or relaxing hot springs in winter, Yangmingshan offers unique scenery and experiences in every season, waiting for you to discover!

Zhuzihu (Bamboo Lake):
Zhuzihu is located at the heart of Yangmingshan National Park, at an altitude of approximately 650 to 670 meters. It is bordered by Xiaoguanyin Mountain to the north, Qixing Mountain to the east, and Datun Mountain to the west, while opening southward with panoramic views over the Taipei Basin. Originally, Zhuzihu was a barrier lake formed by volcanic eruptions some 350,000 years ago. Over time, erosion created an outlet, and the lake gradually drained, leaving behind the basin landscape seen today.

Traditionally, Zhuzihu has been divided into three enclosed areas: Donghu (East Lake), Dinghu (Upper Lake), and Xiahu (Lower Lake). Donghu refers to the area near Hutian Elementary School and is considered the origin of the name “Zhuzihu.” Dinghu is a small basin of around 20 hectares found after crossing the Hutian Bridge and following the right-side farm road uphill—it is located above Donghu, hence the name “Upper Lake.” Xiahu refers to the basin around today’s Calla Lily Boulevard, where the Zhuzihu Stream flows through; because it lies lower than Donghu, it is known as the “Lower Lake.

Qingtiangang is located at the central peak area of the Datun volcanic group and was formed by lava flows from Zhugao Mountain that spread northward, creating a flat and open lava terrace. Historically, Qingtiangang Meadow—once called Daling or Niupu—was a vital cattle grazing ground during the late Qing Dynasty and Japanese colonial era.

During the Japanese period, the areas of Qingtiangang, Qigu Mountain, Huangzuishan, Shitiling, and Ding Mountain were designated as the “Dalingtou Pasture.” A cattle foster care system was implemented, and at its peak, around 1,600 cattle were kept there. To support grazing, carpet grass species were introduced, resulting in a meadow primarily covered with this plant. Most of the fostered cattle were working water buffaloes kept between April and October. Starting in November, owners would take them back to lower elevations for care, likely due to cold, rainy winters and low sunlight in the mountains, which led to poor plant photosynthesis and vitamin deficiencies like vitamin E.

As agriculture became mechanized, cattle grazing declined, and the number of livestock sharply dropped. The original meadow vegetation began to undergo succession, gradually giving way to communities dominated by silver grass and false indigo plants. Shrubs and small trees also started expanding from the valleys, resulting in today’s distinctive landscape of interwoven carpet grass meadows and woody vegetation.

February–March: Cherry Blossom Season
March: Azalea Season
March–April: Calla Lily Bloom
